Health and Safety

Absences and explanations

If your child cannot attend school, let the school know as soon as possible via the Itaca platform (the web app or mobile app). You can also message the class teacher on WhatsApp, but the official absence record always goes through Itaca.

Keep any medical certificates — if absences become frequent, the school may ask for them.

Contagious illness

If your child has symptoms, it is best to keep them at home. As a general rule:

To be confirmed with the school. Check at the office or with your child’s tutor. The exact return-to-school procedure after contagious illness may be set out in the school’s health plan.

Dental check-up (oral health programme)

The Valencian regional health authority (Conselleria de Sanitat) offers a free dental check-up for children aged 5 (final year of nursery). The check-up takes place at the school itself.

Medication at school

The school cannot administer medication to pupils as a general rule. If your child needs to take prescribed medication during school hours:

To be confirmed with the school. Check at the office or with your child’s tutor. Speak directly with the school management to find out the specific procedure. You will need to provide medical documentation and complete an authorisation form.

Never leave medication in your child’s bag without informing the school first.

Weather warnings

When the Spanish Met Office (AEMET) issues an orange or red alert for adverse weather (rain, wind, extreme heat), La Eliana Town Council may suspend outdoor activities.

Teacher strikes

When there is a teacher strike, the school remains open with minimum services:

Pick-up authorisations

At the start of the year, parents should:

  1. Update their contact phone numbers in Itaca and on the school’s forms.
  2. Sign the pick-up authorisations, indicating which people (besides parents) are authorised to collect their child.

If anything changes during the year (a new authorised person, change of custody arrangements, etc.), let the class teacher and the school office know in writing as soon as possible.

The school will not release a child to an unauthorised person, even if they are a family member. Keep authorisations up to date at all times.
