The School Day
Term dates
The school year typically runs from early September to late June. September and June follow a shorter timetable (see below). The official school calendar is published each year by the Conselleria d’Educació (regional education authority).
You can find the current calendar at: https://www.gva.es/es/inicio/procedimientos?id_proc=G25685
The school also designates up to three local school-free days each year, announced by L’Eliana Town Council.
First day of school
On the first day of the school year, families accompany their children to the school entrance. The school provides information about which gate and classroom to go to. Check the school’s communications via Itaca or the AFA Telegram channel in the days before term starts.
General timetable (October to May)
The school operates a jornada partida (split day — morning and afternoon sessions).
| Session | Hours |
|---|---|
| Morning (Mon, Tue, Fri) | 9:00–12:30 |
| Morning (Wed, Thu) | 9:00–13:15 |
| Afternoon (Mon–Thu) | 15:00–16:30 |
| Friday afternoon | — |
There is no afternoon session on Fridays.
September and June timetable
In September and June the timetable is shorter:
| Period | Hours |
|---|---|
| September and June | 9:00–12:30 |
There is no afternoon session during these months. Children who use the canteen leave at 15:00.
Drop-off
The gates open at 9:00. Punctuality is expected — arriving late disrupts the start of the day.
To be confirmed with the school. Check at the office what to do if your child arrives late, as you may need to sign in at reception.
Almuerzo (mid-morning break)
Children have a mid-morning break called the almuerzo during the morning session. The school regulates what children can eat during this break — only healthy foods are allowed:
- Fruit
- A sandwich (bocadillo — filled bread roll)
Foods high in sugar, processed pastries, sweets and fizzy drinks are not allowed. On Fridays, the school sandwich is tortilla de patatas (Spanish omelette).
Bocadillos are also available to purchase at the school during the almuerzo break for older children.
To be confirmed with the school. Check with the school from which year group children can purchase bocadillos.
Comedor (school canteen)
After the morning session, children who are signed up for the comedor (school canteen) eat lunch and stay at school until the afternoon session. Contalabor prepares the food in the school’s own kitchen. You can view the daily menu on their website (www.contalabor.com).
The canteen is a paid service. Grants may be available through the Generalitat Valenciana.
Prices may vary. Check with the school for current canteen pricing and grant eligibility.
To sign up for the canteen or make changes, contact Paula Llorens — p.llorensrodriguez@edu.gva.es
See the Canteen and Mid-Morning Snack section for full details including the June canteen, packed lunches for trips, and dietary requirements.
12:30 pick-up (non-canteen children)
Children who are not signed up for the canteen leave at 12:30 (or 13:15 on Wednesdays and Thursdays). They are collected from a different gate to the normal entrance.
To be confirmed with the school. Check which gate is used for 12:30 pick-up and how it differs from the main entrance.
Afternoon session
The afternoon session runs from 15:00 to 16:30 (Monday to Thursday). Children are dropped off and collected at the school gates.
End-of-day pick-up
At the end of the afternoon session (16:30, Monday to Thursday), children must be collected by an authorised adult. If someone other than the usual parent or carer is collecting your child, let the class teacher know in advance.
To be confirmed with the school. Check which gates each year group uses for pick-up, and the specific leaving times if they are staggered.
Matinera and vesprades (paid extras)
The school offers two additional services outside the standard school day, organised by the AFA:
- Matinera — early morning care before school starts (from 7:30)
- Vesprades (veh-SPRA-des) — after-school care, 16:30–18:00
Contalabor provides the monitors for both services.
These are not part of the standard educational offering. They are paid services that require AFA membership.
Prices may vary. Check with the AFA for current pricing and availability.
School map and entry points
The map below shows the school location and the gates used for drop-off and pick-up. Marker positions are approximate — check with the school for the exact layout.
To be confirmed with the school. Check which gates each year group uses, and whether different gates are used for 12:30 pick-up vs end-of-day pick-up. The marker positions above are approximate and will be updated once confirmed.
