Books and Materials
Book bank — Xarxa de Llibres
The regional education authority (Conselleria d’Educació) runs a programme called Xarxa de Llibres (also known as the banco de libros or cheque-libro — the school book bank or book grant scheme). It lets families get textbooks at no cost or at a greatly reduced cost. Almost all families at the school take part.
The system works differently depending on the year group:
- Years 1 and 2 of Primary: The books are consumable workbooks that cannot be reused. The Conselleria provides a cheque escolar (school voucher) of 160 EUR for each family to buy that year’s materials.
- Years 3 to 6 of Primary: The books are reusable textbooks. The Conselleria lends them — the family uses them during the year and returns them in good condition at the end.
If you participated the previous year, enrolment renews automatically. New families must apply through the GVA electronic office (sede electrónica) before the deadline.
To be confirmed with the school. The exact application deadline for new families varies each year. The school sends the information to families in June.
If a book is lost or returned with serious damage, the family must replace it.
Years 1 and 2 of Primary
With the 160 EUR voucher, families buy the workbooks for each subject. The school informs families of the publisher and exact titles before the start of term.
In recent years (Year 1), the publisher used has been Santillana.
In addition to workbooks, some year groups have supplementary materials — the class teacher includes these on the start-of-year list.
Years 3 to 6 of Primary
The main textbooks are provided through the Xarxa de Llibres loan scheme. What families buy separately is:
- The English Activity Book (workbook), which cannot be reused. It can be bought at Librería Montaner or on Amazon.
- Any other consumable materials specified by the class teacher.
Loaned books must be kept in good condition. They are returned to the school at the end of the year.
To be confirmed with the school. The exact list of materials to buy separately is communicated at the start of each year.
Where to buy
For materials that families buy themselves, there are several options:
| Shop | What they usually stock |
|---|---|
| Librería Montaner | English Activity Books, reading books |
| Librería El Mercat | Reading books assigned by teachers |
| DeLibroEnLibro | Reading books assigned by teachers |
| Amazon | English Activity Books (online alternative) |
Reading books are chosen by each class teacher. The list is shared at the start of term or before the relevant term begins.
Digital books
Some books are available in digital format through AULES, the Valencian education system’s virtual learning environment.
| Subject | Available digitally? |
|---|---|
| Medi (Coneixement del Medi — Science and Social Studies) | Yes |
| Matemàtiques (Maths) | Yes |
| Valenciano | Yes |
| Castellano (Spanish) | No |
Access to AULES is managed through the school. The class teacher provides instructions at the start of the year.
Reading
Teachers assign reading books throughout the year. These are usually not included in the book bank scheme and families buy them directly.
In some year groups there is a class reading diary: a shared notebook that rotates among the pupils. Each week a different child takes it home along with a book, reads it, writes their thoughts, and passes it on to the next pupil. The class teacher explains how it works at the start of the year.
