Costs and Contributions

State education is free, but…

There are no tuition fees or compulsory charges at this school. However, there are real costs that arise during the year: school materials, trips, collective gifts and the voluntary AFA (parents’ association) membership fee. This section explains what you can expect to pay and how money is managed in each class.

School materials

At the start of the year, each class usually agrees on a collective contribution to buy shared supplies (paper, felt-tips, craft materials, etc.). This avoids every family buying separately and reduces what the school asks for individually.

The usual contribution is around 30 EUR per child per year.

The money goes into the class bank account, managed by the padre o madre gestora (class treasurer — see below).

School trips

The school organises several outings during the year. The cost varies depending on the activity.

Type of tripApproximate cost
English-language theatre6 EUR
Local visit (Sant Vicent, etc.)7 EUR
Jardín Botánico or similar14 EUR
Full-day trip (El Quijote, Valencia…)16–22 EUR
Overnight stay / residential33 EUR

These figures are a guide based on recent trips. They may change each year. The class teacher gives advance notice via the class WhatsApp group.

Some trips may not have a confirmed price until closer to the time (for example, the end-of-year music performance).

The class treasurer — padre o madre gestora

Each class has a parent who acts as gestor/a (class treasurer). Their role is to:

The payment method varies by class. Some classes use bank transfer (with the child’s name in the payment reference); others use Bizum (a Spanish mobile payment app). At the start of the year the treasurer announces which method the class uses. Do not mix methods — if the class asks for a bank transfer, do not send via Bizum.

To be confirmed with the school. The name and contact details of each class’s treasurer are shared via the class WhatsApp group at the start of the year.

Gifts and celebrations

These contributions are voluntary, but they are well-established practice at the school.

Gifts for staff

At Christmas and end of year, families typically organise a collective gift for the class teacher and sometimes for the canteen supervisors.

OccasionUsual contribution per family
Christmas — class teacher5–6 EUR
Christmas — canteen supervisors2–4 EUR
End of stage (Year 3 or Year 6)up to 10 EUR

Birthday collections

It is common for families in the class to make a small collective contribution when a classmate has a birthday. The usual amount is 5 EUR per family, normally via Bizum to the parent organising the gift.

Secret Santa

Some classes organise a amigo invisible (Secret Santa) at Christmas. The usual spending limit is between 3 and 6 EUR.

Year 6 leavers’ party

Children finishing Year 6 (the last year of primary school) typically organise a leavers’ celebration. In recent years families have contributed around 20 EUR per child to cover costs. Some groups also order personalised T-shirts or hoodies (around 12–18 EUR depending on the design).

AFA membership fee

The AFA (Asociación de Familias del Alumnado — the school parents’ association) charges an annual voluntary membership fee of 30 EUR per family. The AFA organises after-school activities, the Escola d’Estiu (summer programme) and other initiatives. Membership is voluntary, but it directly supports the school’s resources.

The Escola d’Estiu enrolment fee is separate (in 2025 it was 32.97 EUR).
